MASSAGE THERAPY

Massage is a safe and natural ancient art of healing which aids in the prevention of illness and injury. The aim of massage is to bring about physical, psychological or physiological effects such as relaxation, relief from pain and increased range of motion. Massage is beneficial for everyone; perfect if life seems to be on top of you instead of the other way around.

Massage is not a medical procedure and the therapists are not doctors. When having a massage it is important that you inform the therapist of any changes in your health prior to the session. Whilst having a massage you may request it to be ceased at any time. If you are under 18 we require you to have written parent permission before your consultation. Alternatively a parent or guardian is welcome to sit in during the consultation. Revesby Workers’ Club has a zero tolerance stance towards sexual harassment.

WHY HAVE A MASSAGE?

Increases the health of the body's tissue:

  • Improves metabolism by increasing circulation of blood and lymph supply to tissues. This stimulation strengthens your immune system to fight off infection and viruses and helps push out the body’s build up of toxins.
  • Increase nutrient supplies to the muscles and organ body tissue thus improving health.

Reduces pain:

  • Relieves muscle tension and spasm.
  • Provides pain relief by sedating nerve impulses.

Accelerates healing after injury:

  • Reduces swelling.
  • Minimises scar formation and fibrosis which limits movement.

Aids with skin conditions:

  • Improves secretory functions of sweat and oil glands.
  • Due to improved circulation the skin texture improves.

Reduces Mental and Emotional Stress:

  • Decreases muscular tension and pain.
  • Increases calmness and relaxation.
  • Promotes return to regular sleep patterns.

SOME OF THE THERAPIES AVAILABLE

Remedial massage
Remedial massage uses several specialised techniques to locate, repair damage and to support and speed up the body’s own repair mechanisims. The massage is applied directly to the skin using a lubricating medium, usually oil, which ensures that the muscles associated with the disorder and mobilisation of the joint are deeply penetrated. Passive stretching moves may also be used.

Cupping
Cupping is a traditional healing technique that promotes circulation and detoxification by stimulating the skin with application of suction cups. Cupping helps loosen tight muscles where other massage techniques have not been enough. This method is particularly helpful when treating chronic injuries which respond to treatment, but often come back. Cups are applied one after another and then left on the skin for 10 - 30 minutes. The stimulation increases circulation and in response, the skin discolors and bruises.

Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy has been around for some 6000 years and involves the use of pure essential oils (fragrant plant extracts), usually through massage, inhalation, baths or compresses. In an aromatherapy massage, individual blends are prepared by the practitioner, in a base of cold pressed oil and then applied to the patient's skin through a remedial or relaxing massage. As a holistic treatment, aromatherapy can have a profound effect on physical and psychological wellbeing. There exists the belief that scent, as the most enduring of our senses, has the power to transform our emotions, and heal our bodies. Aromatherapy can have a wide range of benefits, from the physical to the emotional. The benefits of essential oils can be obtained through inhalation or by external application. Aromatherapy is often used in conjunction to mainstream medicine to help treat common colds and flu, insomnia, nausea, skin conditions, migraines and headaches and many other ailments.
