Top tip: Never give up… and more importantly ensure your diet is in order.

How long have you been a member of Health Mates?

I have been a member of Health Mates since October 2010.

What inspired you to join Health Mates?

I had blown out to 97 kilos due to poor diet and comfort eating; and being only 5″7 tall, I was way too heavy for my height. I didn’t like the way I looked and was determined to do something about it.

What forms your exercise routine?

Most of my training is cardio based, with weight training mixed in.

What have you achieved so far, and how has it changed your life?

From a high of 97 kilos I got down to 73 kilos. due to injury (and being unable to train) it has crept up to the low-mid 80s. My target is 75 kilos which I am confident I will achieve. In terms of clothing sizes I have dropped from an XL in shirts, down to a S. Pants have gone from an XL to M. I have way more energy than before and I am in the best shape of my life.

What advice can you give someone who is in a similar position as you were?

Never give up (even if you hit the dreaded plateau), but more importantly ensure your diet is in order. It’s pointless to do a 30 minute cardio workout or weight session followed up with a greasy hamburger and chips. Take into consideration that an exercise regime/healthy diet is a lifetime decision, not a short term one. The best advice I have every gotten was from my mother “Your health is your greatest asset.”
