  • Make a list and stick to it. If it’s not on the list, you don’t need it.
  • Plan your meals around what you already have in your kitchen, including leftovers. Creativity saves dollars!
  • Plan your week’s worth of meals in advance and buy accordingly. You’ll be less likely to get takeaway if you have everything you need already.

WHILE SHOPPING

  • Buy fruits and vegetables that are in season. They are cheaper, fresher and tastier. Buy fruit and vegetables in different stages of ‘ripeness’ so they last longer.
  • Look in the freezer section for fresh frozen fruit, vegetables and seafood – these foods won’t spoil quickly.
  • Don’t pay for packaging and processing. Individually wrapped items are a waste of money. There’s nothing wrong with buying in bulk if the food doesn’t spoil.

STAPLES YOU SHOULD KEEP IN YOUR KITCHEN

  • Tinned tomatoes, chickpeas, legumes, corn and tuna.
  • Frozen berries, bread, meat, seafood and leftover dinners.
  • Re-sealable containers with cereals, nuts, yoghurts.
