Member Of The Month – Kate Hallows

How long have you been a member at Health Mates?

I first joined about 13 years ago, but have suspended my membership on and off over the years.

What is your training routine and how do you stay motivated?

I train 4/5 days a week. I have been training with Jack ( PT) for about 15 months and I love it – I had never really done any form of weight training before and I’m hooked! Jack helps me stay balanced, focused and continuously challenging myself. Having someone encouraging me, pushing me mentally and physically and proving to me that I can achieve my goals is what helps keep me motivated. Even on those “off” days it’s amazing once I’m at the gym how much better I start to feel and sometimes those turn out to be my best training sessions!!

What have you achieved so far and how has it changed your life?

I am so much stronger now than I have ever been. Over the last 15 months I have learnt that for me it’s not about how much I weigh or what I look like that’s important, it’s about learning new techniques, achieving better form, being able to gradually lift heavier weights and feeling proud of myself. My training has helped me to focus and to believe in myself more. I have smashed goals that I never thought possible 15 months ago. My proudest achievement in the gym has been to hip thrust 150kg! I cried after!

What are your goals for the future?

To continue to learn and evolve, to push myself as far as I can physically, but more importantly continue to gain my inner strength.

What advice would you give to someone who is in a similar position as you were/are or thinking about starting exercise.

Taking that first step is the hardest, but once you have crossed that line you can achieve whatever you want. Don’t be afraid to ask for help whether it’s by working alongside a PT or just seeking advice from other members or staff.
