What inspired you to join Health Mates
I joined Health Mates in March 2017. My initial goal was to get into shape. I was bridesmaid for my Sister’s wedding, and knowing that the family wedding photos are on the wall forever, was a
constant motivator for me to keep going. What have you achieved to date and how has it changed your life? I love my new-found energy levels, it’s a big shift from being at home with a small baby all day! I now walk or run to the gym with my 1 year old son in the pram. It’s a great way for us to spend time together in the fresh air – and he absolutely loves it! My family is so supportive. My nearly 4 year old son likes to hear about what exercises I do, and gets me to do some of his made-up exercises
too. I’m managing to get to the gym at least four times per week. Leading a busy lifestyle, fitting in time to look after myself is an
achievement in itself.

What types of exercise do you include in your workouts?
I do Personal Training with my super trainer, Amber, regularly and also enjoy attending a variety of classes, including Mums & Bubs, Pilates, Boxing and Rev.

What keeps you motivated to exercise?
I love the accountability I have with Amber and my Personal Training sessions; the harder she pushes me the harder I train. The results are paying off. I am pleased I’ve met my initial goal. I also find group classes motivating; there’s a sense of comradery and knowing that someone will notice your absence helps to get you out of a warm bed on a cold winters morning. My favourite is Rev with Andre, he matches his class to music perfectly and the energy in the room is on fire – always!

What else has changed for you since starting at Health Mates?

I feel good within myself and love sharing this feeling with my
family. The friendships I’ve formed at Health Mates are priceless and make my visits something to look forward to. It’s been great meeting so many like-minded people, and there’s a real sense of teamwork and motivation.

What are your fitness goals for the future?
I want to maintain my fitness and strength gains, and most importantly my energy levels. Setting a good example for my sons is important, plus I’ve got a fitness challenge with my husband that I’ve got to win!

Your advice to others thinking about getting started:
Just start, you’ll never know where you end up or who you’ll meet along the way. Being a health coach myself, my top three recommendations that I also follow are; more water and leafy greens, keep sugar and processed foods to a minimum and remember that healthy fats are your friend. I try to stick by this as much as possible.
